@[PorkChopExpress:53783] I don't doubt that it's possibly about Frank given it was written during the break up, likely before as it happened while the last splash was being recorded. But she already kinda hated him. I don't think she felt slighted in any way or that she was in his shadow. I think if anything she felt like she was carrying the pixies to success, honestly it kinda feels that that was the reality anyway she did wat better on her own. But as far as her doing whatever Frank told her to and stuff, I'm pretty sure a big issue with the band was she didn't. They took a hiatus after the first 3 years because it was too much work and she wanted to start the breeders. Then they finally "broke up" in 1993 after a bit of a reunion. I don't doubt she thought he kinda sucked but I don't think she felt oppressed by him more likely that he was dead weight if anything. |

This song is about the general attitude of street crime in the late 70's and early 80's. It uses topics such as Taxi Driver and the death of Frank Melvin as talking points. Like most songs by The Clash it isn't cut and dry. It is designed to make you think about more than one side to "the crime problem". This entire album is pretty much about the battle between the people and the authority and this song is no exception. It isn't made to get you to believe there is a right answer, but to think about how to find an answer. Police brutality and vigilante justice are both shitty solutions and this song is all about that. |
