I think there are two women in the story here. He's writing a letter to one of them on a page meant for the other: "..on a page I was meaning to send her. You I couldn't tell if it bring my heart the way I wanted when I started writing this letter to you." That's why he can't hold her hand and tell her he's the man who loves her, even though he is, and he does. Looking for stones to throw -- that's maybe about hypocrisy (people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones)? And feet that run back home -- he goes home to the person this song *isn't* about. (I am trying to break your heart could be to the same person, who he has drunk hookups with even though he knows he shouldn't. "What was I thinking when we said hello?" Like, shouldn't even *call*.) |
