| Ayreon – My House On Mars Lyrics | 3 years ago |

"No friends for playing games No foes who scorn my name Computerized machines of steel and rust" To me, it's a song about loneliness. Like living in a strange town where you don't know anyone, and working from home. All your interaction with the outside world is via screens - computerized machines. Seems like Ayreon has pre-dated COVID and the great migration. And you're so lonely that you feel like you'll might as well live on Mars. "My time has come - our time has come I'm emotionally numb - emotionally numb I'm headed for the stars, I'm leaving my house on Mars" This has suddenly turned darker - sounds like death to me - this is finally over and you're leaving for the stars. And to confirm that: "I will die in my house on Mars" So your body ain't going nowhere. But your soul is. Hence "The Universal Migrator". |

@[RushRules:31692] It's not about that, the concept of the song is actually pretty simple: True love is not about physical attraction or romantic gestures, but about partnership and mutual goals, same as friendship. And just like friendship will go away if you stop caring about your friend, the same is with your romantic partner - is if that if they'll feel that you abuse, exploit or neglect them, they will go away. And all romantic gestures are "cold fire" (which looks nice, but doesn't keep you warm) - they don't mean anything if there's no actual commitment behind them. |
