The Kings – This Beat Goes On/Switchin' to Glide Lyrics 6 years ago
The Kings were a quirky late 70's Canadian group, who were essentially One Hit Wonders. They really only had one successful album, with one hit song on it.
That double A single was the combined songs of This Beat Goes On and Switching to Glide.
The song actually has no real meaning or depth to it.
However, it is extremely catchy, funny, and has a great rhythm. It is a versatile tune, as it is pleasurable to both listen to and sing along with while driving in a car, and/or partying and dancing.
It is a campy, kitschy, amusing song with humorous lyrics. It's a "feel good" tune.
Picking up girls, calling friends, riding around in cars, partying, cavorting, acting like a "lunatic" all night ('till our strength is gone"), shirking all responsibility, slacking, and not caring about what others think.
Almost like a teenage anthem.
The most serious and telling line in it is the ending:
"I'm bound to find some way out of this hole, you know
Out of this hole!"
This is one of my all time favourite songs, and guilty pleasures.
Almost 40 years later, I still tap my toes and sing along whenever it comes on the radio.
Really, nothing matters but the weekend, from a Tuesday point of view.
