Now 3 days after Mark's death, I find these lyrics to be a singular message from him directly to us... Although background phrasing, Mark is telling us "Everything's alright". In fact, everyone involved seems to be sharing the mantra: "everything is all right". TT has meant so much to those of us paying attention- for my part I discovered their last 3 album releases only last Fall, months before my mother's passing. Collectively the music provided a balm where nothing else seemed able. "New Grass" on repeat driving to my brother's house (he was her primary caregiver); "After The Flood" on the trip home... "I Believe In You" and "Happiness Is Easy" providing somber honey... I do not know what I would have done without them. Now he's gone. For good. Selfishly, no accidental meetings, no retrospectives. What a crushing sensation. He wouldn't listen to these masterpieces himself- understandably so (what were YOU doing 30 years ago?)- but now, amid the pain of Our Loss... "everything's all-right"... |

I want to thank you all deeply for your comments, even the difficult 'minus-ones'... This is a heart-wrenching song with heart wrenching possible interpretations. It has fit my world when my formerly-dear mother injected toxic, hard-to-handle behaviors into our family dynamic, creating deep rifts between us siblings... ...and it now fits my world since my again-dear mother died last December. My particular favorite version is the "Moon Boots Remix", that stays on repeat indefinitely when required. The tone of this remix differs from the others in its gravity and euphoria... I don't understand how a song can rip out our insides so thoroughly. Another with the same function is "The Wheel", by SOHN. It 'arrived' after my father's death in 2012.
