@[Ursza:29241] For the longest time I thought the same. But I think there is another reading. The other man was the man in her live before she met the man she is married to now. As you wrote, the other was richer, made her happier but the child was probably out of wedlock (Maja has no family-name but something descriptive) and she was disgraced and has to live now with the man, she does not love but who provides for her. |
