| Bobby Hebb – Sunny [1965] Lyrics | 1 year ago |
| I think it's "Then, a rock was formed when we held hands". Even though to Bobby it was primarily about remembering his brother Harold fondly, to me it has many Christian themes in it, about thankgiving, turning one's life around from sadness to joy, learning the truth, being comforted, experiencing grace, and similar references. This was the song that first turned me on to Soul music. I was in the sixth grade. The big Motown hits followed soon afterwards, but to me, it seemed like Sunny was just before that. | |

| These are tricky lyrics. Nice stab at it - but some of them still don't quite make sense to me. | |

"Try and smile" could be "Try and fly" "We are all the sun" "We are of the sun" works better, I think. We are of the sun in the sense that the sun spun off the matter which became the planets, of which one is the earth, and also supplies all the energy for us living beings. "Truth is Light and it’s talking to you every day" "Truth is life and it’s talking to you every day" |

This version: "No other man can love you just as good as I" Suggestion: "I know your other man can love you just as well as I". "No other man" doesn't work, since the version on Minus Seeds and Stems clearly has the word "you" between "know" and "other". The word "I" is not clearly heard, but grammatically it belongs there, and I think Bill just smushes them together. |

Thanks for these lyrics. Here are my thoughts: And you know there is no life to be lived in vain And you know there is no life to be lived in pain (the word pain is in the first verse, so I think this fits better). When you are risin’ you’ll see the horizon before you When you arise and you see the horizon before you |

Thanks so much for posting these lyrics - I love this song for both the music and the lyrics. I play this song on the guitar and I wanted to get the lyrics right, so I looked this up. I was struggling with this line "Just contain the insanity". I think this is probably right - the meaning does seem to fit, but I'm still not totally sure. It sounds like he's saying "with sanity", so I'm thinking it sounds like "Just pretain with sanity", but pretain is not a word, so that can't be it, and I can't figure out what else it could be, so this version will have to stand. On this line, "Baby the light will shine through", I hear it as "Maybe the light will shine through". On these two lines: "We are all of us living Therefore all of us giving", that could be right, but I hear it as "We are all of us living then for all of us giving". Not totally sure either way. I sure with artists would settle the matter and publish their own lyrics! |
