| @[s7s:29176] Right! Robin mentioned that mountain on their KEXP-gig in May 2017. | |

It's about a person who parted from another (Good to be without you) so he's happy about it but quite unsure (she might look like the answer). This makes sense for Robin's girlfriend parted from him (or the other way round) some years ago. But then he's longing to see her again (I need to see you) while he's urgent to pretend that he won't need her 'cause a reunion could cause some disappointment or pain. Deep in his heart he still loves her but he knows seeing her is 'forbidden'. Everyone of you who's partner parted from you while you were still loving that person know what's going on inside here. Veeery bad state of heart. The heart curls around & doesn't find peace. Finally he finds his partner has turned away definitely (Off on the other ocean now / All is behind you). It's a very great song with chords I immediately fell in love with. Mature lyrics. Pecknold is a master in that. |

For me this great song is about a very unconfident person who works as "a government man". He was hit by his parents or others with punches so he grew up losing weight ("I am too thin"). Because of his unconfidence he tumbles through his life. In his job he's oppressing people ("Don't you miss it!"). I don't think this song's about a society as a whole. It's a look behind the curtain of the 'almighty' government. But unside there are unconfident people. |
