I can see this song being about drug abuse but I've recently sort of came around to it being about mental illness. He's apologizing to his S.O. about his dark tendencies, stuff that he knows is there but can't control. Without knowing much about Tweedy, I took this song and a couple of others on the album to be written post-breakup [Either Way, Please Be Patient With Me, Hate It Here]. I know that to be incorrect now in that he was married to his wife long before and long after this album came out. |
