I think this song could be about the ridiculous impulse of trying to guess at the future state of things. It could be this way, it could be that way. You can say whatever you want now about the future, because we don't know. And that's what people do.

Alternatively, it could be about the fact that the future is different for different people. A lot of popular futurology focuses on what rich people / rich societies will be able to do. But the future will be different for rich and for poor: everyone will be too fat / everyone will be too skinny; nobody will have leisure time / everyone will only work one day a week.

Some of the musings are obviously very insightful. The future will be different from now, and none of our desires to keep the current state of things will matter. There is a scientific aloofness in the musings. There are no value judgments on what could be. Something else is coming. What seems impossible and strange now will be commonplace in the future.
