| ahhhhhhh. my fav owl city song. owl city is such a good writer most the time and I know this song isnt about drugs but reading the first few stanzas, it seems like it is. it isnt, it is very much about two kids who are both really shy and introverted and it makes them sad but he wants to make sure she is never sad so he will shoot a rainbow through her veins which means, make her happy, nothing to do with drugs, its just a metaphor to make it sound like a high but its not. | |

this song, according to him, is about getting in an almost fatal accident but having an epiphany while recovering and living your life better afterwards. it was inspired after a friend of his had the exact thing happen to him. I survived a dreadful accident In the car crash of the century *this is hyperbole to make the car crash sound bad and since this is written from his perspective, he must think this one the worst car crash ever. this is just saying that it was really big* My shattered hopes collapsed on cold cement *im not sure what this litterarry device would be called but he is manifesting emotions and "hopes" as actual things and it gives the idea that he thought he was going to die and he left his hopes that had shattered behind when he left* But in the back of the ambulance, I'd never felt so content *this progresses the story further as he, on the way to the hospital, is thinking about life and just trying to be happy and positive despite the circumstances* A high-speed collision gave a new sense of sight to me And now my vision can render the scene *the crash and aftermath gave him a new, better outlook on life. his perspective changed and "render the scene" means that he now doesnt look at the car crash as a bad thing* A blurry image of wreckage and roadside debris *making it out to be a bad thing as a fake out before the next line* Happiness returned to me through a grave emergency *he realizes that he wasn't happy before but he appreciates life so much than before* I tossed and turned in sterile apathy *this is a more in depth look at his hospital stay, before his change in perspective and epiphany* Until the violets arrived for me The bouquet burst and blossoms filled the room And taught me to bloom*this is how he saw these flowers they represent love and care because that is why someone sent then. with nothing else to enjoy after a terrible accident, love and caring are filling his mind and starting the change in perspective* The curtains decayed, the daylight poured in *this is all in his mind, the curtains being the cynicism after the crash or even his sadness and problems in his life before that. he is saying that the bad thoughts that where blocking his mind are gone and his head is now filled with happiness and optimism.* I was never afraid of the darkness again My burns were third-degree, but I'd been set free 'Cause grace had finally found its way to me *this is basically him just telling the good effects of the crash and focusing on them* |

i dont think all time low was a very big band when this came out so I think it is about dreams to play sold out concerts. my interpretation of this song is either losing your best friend, SO or spouse by one giant arguement the first vese strarts in the middlen of the argument as a voice in his head. "do you know whats worth fighting for when its not worth dying for" maybe its worth a word of recognition of something your annoyed about but its not worth a screaming match. but its to late for that, its happening. "does it take your breath away and you feel yourself suffocating" you are so shocked at something you said. it was something so mean you cant take it back. "does the pain weigh out the pride and you look for a place to hid" they told you to leave and you look for somewhere to go and you think 'was it worth it' but you are too pridefull to appologize "did someone break your heart inside your in ruins" your sad "one 21 guns lay down your arm give up the fight one 21 guns throw up your arms into the sky" you want to go back and say sorry but you cant because you are scared they wont accept the appologize the entire second verse is just that you are sad as hell and cant decide weather you want to appologize or not.
