| The Sisters of Mercy – Dominion/Mother Russia Lyrics | 7 months ago |
|
This song is about effectively Americans having a blaze attitude to who they elect to power and their efforts to influence foreign policy in far off nations. This attitude (of some) shows that Americans and their leaders are ill equipped and in fact downright hypocritical to hold "Dominion" over any nation when in their own nation "In the heat of the night" they exhibit the most abhorrent attitudes to their own citizens (specifically Blacks, Mexicans and Middle Eastern). In the heat of the night is a 1960's film starring Sidney Poitier as a Police Detective forced to investigate a murder in Mississippi and despite his obvious superior intellect and culture you can imagine the reception he gets. There is also a reference to Mined down in the streets of shame which is effectively a reference to Lloyds of London whose insurance and dominance of finance means countries are stripped of their resourses (mined) and LLoyds is based in the financial sector. There is also a link to Fleet St (where most British Newspapers are based) and that is called the Street Of Shame. "Betting on names of gold to rust" could mean Lloyds insure massive companies and thus those companies (when exploited) turn from gold to rust. But it could also be reference to the tabloid press in Fleet St where the "names of gold to rust" could mean somebody is in the newspapers and they hound them and dig up dirt on them and turn their respected name from "gold to rust" (From respected to tarnished) Later on the reference in Mother Russia is simply about America's influence during the cold war on East and West Germany - the "52 daughters of the revolution, will turn the gold to chrome" refers to the original 52 women who signed a letter to not use British products before the war of independence, but here it refers to the descendants of them (and Americans in general) who will literally spend money (gold) on shiny baubles (Chrome) as their society is judged on how much you have. The last lines "Gift, nothing to lose" Gift is German for Poison and the people who are "Stuck inside Memphis in a Mobile home" might as well take Poison as their status means they will never attain the American Dream. Also it's a dig at those folk as the Southern people (who Eldritch doesn't like and has admitted as much in interviews) who mainly inhabit these trailers generally have an opinion on how great America is and who vote for the sort of Presidents and believe in their policies that America is the greatest nation on earth and should rule the world (the irony that they live in a cheap home that is almost a slum is very ironic) |

| The Cult – Spiritwalker Lyrics | 2 years ago |
|
Considering Astbury's well known love of Native American and such cultures and his fascination with their rituals. Spiritwalkers is a term used by Aboriginies to describe the moments when a person passes over to the spirit world to walk among the spirits and the last "song" they sing before passing over (presumably sung at their funeral) |

| Middle Class Rut (MC Rut) – Busy Bein' Born Lyrics | 4 years ago |
| some lyrical correction - it\'s "those rats keep pushing on" referring to the rat race. \n\nLook i think this is quite deep - \n\nI think it\'s to do with the government owning you from birth (the birth certificate and "busy bein born") \n\nSo you\'re signed up to the "rat race" Hence "Those rats keep pushing on". The line "The slowest race around, we all just race around" again the rat race, it seems for most (not the elite chosen fee paying school etc) you race all your life (it\'s slow) to get ahead and it seems you go round in circles without any real reward. \n\nThe "No sense in signing up your name\'s already in" You\'re already signed up to being part of government society since birth as the birth (or berth) certificate automatically enters you into this race(the rat race). \n\n"Go ahead fuck it up the next guy pays for it". In the UK we always say that the 20\'s and 30\'s are paying their taxes and National Insurance to pay for the pensioners of today (mid 60\'s upwards). Just like those pensioners did back when they were younger (paying for older people). The "fuck it up" may refer to those who are long term unemployed (and in the UK we have millions who are unemployed BY CHOICE) and "the next guy pays for it" who is working. So it\'s probably a sarcastic comment to them to say "yeah go ahead don\'t bother working, i\'ll pay for it"\n\n"What i get ain\'t half of what i give", is the effort and money he puts in (taxes etc) and he feels he gets next to nothing for it, always being downtrodden (work, society) \n\n"Give it back or i\'ll take it" is effectively a call to arms to hold politicians to account to get what you\'ve paid for, to get the society you\'ve been signed up to and to basically call for a revolution to hold them to account. \n\nIn effect the song is a dig at those who don\'t contribute while we work our asses off, the lack of reward for doing so and the fact the Elites live fat on the sweat and labour of so many while not contributing much themselves. Also about how one day if he doesn\'t get just reward he\'ll take his just reward. | |
| The Brotherhood of Man – Save Your Kisses for Me Lyrics | 4 years ago |

@[TheGraduate:38643] Sorry Bud however that's partially correct. It's actually written for a Father to his 3 year old daughter who can't understand why he needs to leave her everyday to go to work. End line of the song "Won't You save them for me even though you're only three" |

| W.A.S.P. – Stone Cold Killers Lyrics | 5 years ago |
|
The song (along with the album Dying For The World) is about the 9/11 World Trade Centre Bombing. This song in particular is directed at the hijackers themselves. First verse self explanatory asking them to think about the horror they brought and the lie they believe (presumably they believe they'll become martyr's and revered in heaven). 2nd verse asking them what did they get (the old fabled 57 virgins?) for the bloody dead in the trades (the World Trade Towers) and telling them don't blame their dead (fanatics like them) "on the whores of Babylon you laid". Babylon was an old civilization taking in part of Syria, Iraq and Iran and the whore of babylon is mentioned in the book of revelations to whom the kings of the earth allegedly got drunk fornicating with her. There's also a literal connection in that a lot of the Islamic terrorists come from Syria, Iran and Iraq which is modern Babylon. So don't blame their dead on the fact they were killing people for years. Bridge - "Johnny get your guns" literally a call to arms for either the American people or could be the military as the song "one" by Metallica has the video from an old war film called Johnny got his gun. "You'll need all those Prophets you pay" They (the terrorists and their handlers/collegues) will need to start praying to their prophets (because johnny has his gun) "I'm gonna kill the god that you made" Blackie is a devout Christian so literally he is saying their interpretation of God is made up. Chorus - I'm gonna murder Superman (Superman being what the terorists believ Osama Bin laden was) Stone Cold Killer's what i am (self explanatory) your widowmakers gonna come you can't hide (widowmaker is the Armlaite AR18 which is an American infantry weapon). last verse pretty self explanatory Blackie is saying the Prophet Mohammed is a liar and isn't real (remember he is devout Christian) "How will you die for the one that you kneel" - basically choose how you (Islamic Terrorists)want to die. "Better get your guns" (because the American Army/Air force) is coming "My god will kill your god" Blackie's God (remember devout Christian) will kill Allah. Well that's my interpretation. Though i should point out these are NOT my beliefs. I am not a religous man and i mean no offence to the Prophet, Allah, Muslims & Islamic people around the world, God, Christians or other people of Faith around the world & the American Military. This song is someone else's writing and if you take offence then take it up with Blackie Lawless but before you do bear in mind he's 6' 5" and built with it!!. |

| Motörhead – Motor Head Lyrics | 6 years ago |

For me I was 8 years old I listened to Adam & The Ants who had some pretty fierce songs themselves (loved the Burrundi drumming style) and then I heard it - Motorhead's Motorhead and my music taste changed forever. Lemmy - you may be gone brother but your music and soul live on in the heart of every Metalhead. |

as Jonfool said it's a description of what Heavy Metal is. That moment when a song starts, you may not like the band but you know the genre and a part of you feels the beat and fury. For me I was 8 years old I listened to Adam & The Ants who had some pretty fierce songs themselves (loved the Burrundi drumming style) and then I heard it - Motorhead's Motorhead and my music taste changed forever. This song is in many way just as potent |

My wife puts this song on in her car (or has in the past) when she's left a new job everytime from 2003. As soon as she's in the car she loads up this song to drive away from her old work. She also put it on in the car when we drove away from our old house to move into our current house. TBH I'm not a big fan of pop music being a Hard Rock and Metal man myself, however I can appreciate a well written song that isn't full of hidden meaning and undercurrents (as a lot of Rock songs are). I can appreciate this song and how it works and pleases a lot of people. |

| Judas Priest – Better by You, Better Than Me Lyrics | 7 years ago |
|
@[Yankeesfan630:28580] I Filtered it out using software - Rob "Better by you better than meeee" Someone Else "YOU... YOU" That's what you're hearing. Any even if it was "Do it" lets listen to the immortal words of the late great Bill Hicks "if you're playing your records backwards looking for Satanic messages. YOU ARE SATAN, you needn't look any further and don't go ruining my stereo to prove the fucking point" Also "something that didn't come up at the (Judas Priest) trial - What performer wants their audience dead?. I don't get the long term benefit here. (Brummie accent) Sick of it I am, fuckin' sick of it. The whole lot - Touring, making $100,000 a night, drugs, booze groupies blowing me dawn to dusk. I'm in a rut and I want out. Here mate why don't we kill the fuckin' audience?. I could go back to my job selling shoes" The American legal system and some Americans...Jeez they really need to have a look at themselves. No wonder they needed Great Britain to look after you for a couple of hundred years arguably you never had it better ;-) (tongue firmly in cheek) |

| Anthrax – Room For One More Lyrics | 7 years ago |
|
I got this album when it came out and I remember John Bush talking about this song. It's specifically about some death row & Lifer inmates that have "found god" in prison after committing multiple murders and how god has forgiven them. The first verse deals with "Your heart is cured now, you're normal once again One confession, you thought that's all it took, But redemption, doesn't let you off the hook" They confessed their sins (crimes) and think that they are ok, but that redemption (i.e. Hell) won't forget what they did. "One more place at the table always room for one more" is a literal meaning that there's always room for one more in Hell. "Thinking evil, is that just your normal gig Fueled by hatred, happy as a stuffed pig" Second verse is about the actual inmates mental state and how some of them seem oblivious to the hurt they've caused. "You're so lonely, everyone around you reeks, Of indifference, thriving in their apathy" Once they come to terms with it, they're surprised that no one in authority takes their supposed contrition seriously. The last verse:- "Your schism, my distress, Your failure is my success. Squeezed out, kept me down, What goes around comes around I can wait you out, Patience is my virtue Call it payback, call it proper grounds What goes around always comes around, always comes around" Is the inmates conscience speaking to them a conscience that they surpressed while committing their crimes and subsequent lack of remorse for what they've done. However sooner or later after their confession in verse 1 and the lack of empathy or acceptance by people of that confession in verse 2 their conscience "Can wait you out" and that "Call it payback, call it proper ground, what goes around always comes around". Trust me I seen the interview with John Bush where he explains this |
