| Dope – Easier Lyrics | 5 years ago |
|
An old friend sent this song to me while I was living in my car. The chorus made sence at the time, because of what I was going through. Hearing it again more than 10 years later, this song sounds like it's about a couple who had no time for each other - one is always waiting, as if "on another planet", while the other is busy, "into something that (they) always had to do". Maybe one got sick of waiting for the other, so the third verse alludes to them fighting. Now I wonder what that old friend was trying to say, if anything. He was a bit of a Dope fan though, and we used to share a lot of music back then. |

| Smash Mouth – Walkin' On The Sun Lyrics | 6 years ago |

There's a lot going on in this song, but I think the coloquial language refers to the meaning of peace being missunderstood with each new generation. Some created peace when "they folked out with guitars around bonfires", while others found it through escapism and drugs. Great song |

| Sixpence None the Richer – A Million Parachutes Lyrics | 6 years ago |
|
It sounds like someone old reminiscing about a war and everything that was lost during such a time. They "lock up the front door and turn the lights down" to hide from the snow. The snow could bring cold and harsh memories. It falls "like a million parachutes" and "small men on a mission". The chorus tells of everything the writer misses, most of which are warm things, as well as missing everyone, but that "seems like ages ago". A second verse lulls the listener into the idea that the war is over, through telling that "The dogs are asleep now". The writer is possibly alone, continuing with "There's no one to call" and they pass the time by listening to records as they "wait for the light". Hearing the chorus again is as if they are thinking about their youth, before having gone to war, and remembering everything and everyone they miss. |

| It's about taking responsibility for your own actions and living in the moment, but not giving into peer pressure, beliefs, or the fear of being yourself. | |
| Green Day – Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) Lyrics | 7 years ago |

Good Riddance sounds like a song about people who have drifted apart, or chosen to follow different paths in life. This is evident in the lyrics "Another turning point, a fork stuck in the road" and "Time grabs you by the wrist, directs you where to go". The next two lines, "So make the best of this test and don't ask why" and "It's not a question, but a lesson learned in time" are telling of someone who has to learn from their experience, and that they want others to learn from it too. "I know it's unpredictable, but in the end it's right" could be saying that the writer is about to do something that deviates from how they usually behave. In the end they mean well, ending the verse with "I hope you had the time of your life". Being paired with the line before this, these two lines show that the writer has overcome some kind of inner turmoil that drifting apart caused them. The second verse is full of nostalgia about some times spent together, recalling "photographs, and still frames", and "Tattoos of memories". The second line states they want to treasure their memories, but also put them to rest, saying to "Hang them on a shelf in good health and good time". "Dead skin on trial" could pertain to some bitterness or regrets over whatever happened to make them drift apart. Next the writer reiterates that whatever bitterness they felt is over - stating "For what it's worth, it was worth all the while" - and repeat that they're wishing someone well until the end of the song. Over all the lyrics portray a bitter-sweet feeling of reminiscing about both good and bad times that were spent with someone the writer was very close to. This song is a favourite of mine and listening to it felt like guidance when I was young, but I've also been able to appreciate it a lot more now that I'm older. It's the first thing I learned on guitar, and I still enjoy playing it today. |
