My first reaction is drug-use but I think it’s probably more deeply probing into the psychoanalysis of a user...maybe? Subtle lyrics are often intentionally opaque I think. Could just be my lazy brain isn’t willing to do the work of parsing participles tho |

There are a LOT of errors in these song lyrics but I’m not seeing how to go about editing. If anyone can help direct me to the proper place to edit these lyrics I’ll be happy to make the necessary corrections. |

The app is called ‘Song Meanings’ not ‘Artist Flattery.’ ;) It’d be really cool to see some interpretations on this one cuz I’ve been uber curious about some of the more cryptic verses especially towards the end. Back in high school when the song first came out, we used to skip class to smoke copious amounts of cheeba and posit our theories on this an other various and sundry songs we’d listen to. One of my friends put forward the idea that the song is about tripping on acid (hence ‘drrrroOP!’) This blew my mind and the more I listened to it the more I was impressionably convinced he was onto something. Knowing the Pharcyde to be drug culturistes it seemed plausible and given some of the abstract imagery in Slim Kid Tré’s verse plus the ad-libbing at the end— reminiscent of a comedown after a long trip, I’d like to make a case for an acid trip double entendre spliced with the more obvious themes of genre domination by the pharcyde in the token fashion of said genre. Haven’t heard the song in awhile so perhaps I’ll go back now and investigate the verses again for credence to this theory and post some examples. In the meantime, I hope I just blew some of your minds in the same awed fashion mine was by this potentially stunning revelation. Cheers! |

| @[SR4N0K:28097] wow! Your interpretations make me see this song in a while new light and given my knowledge of his love of Nabokov paired with your perceptions I’m wondering whether this might be inspired by Nabokov’s “Invitation to a Beheading!?” | |

| @[SomePurpleGuy:28096] good luck ever gettin a straight answer on that. I’ve wondered myself. I’m tempted to think it’s koanesque nonsense but that’s probably a cop out. | |

@[dan16v:28094] what about it?? Free associating there? More than JK’s OTR is Ginsburg’s “Howl” whose themes permeate throughout this song as well as the beat era... |

@[Derek_Hart:28093] Wow... Ten years since you posted your interpretation of these lyrics and nobody else has so much as attempted to analyze or annotate even on Genius Lyrics’ website/app... I mean I can’t necessarily blame them, the masses, for their reticence on this one. It’s a pretty daunting and opaque poem even by Subtle’s standards. I’d like to take a swing at it momentarily but I’m not sure if this website is glitching or what so this initial post is a sort of test run which I’ll follow with my own thoughts, presuming no glitches. Btw, I really like your thoughts on She and appreciate your perception and time taken to share. Thanks Derek! Hope you cruise back by this site again soon (if you’re still with us). |
