I my reminds me of “Don’t get married without me” in someways. This sort of loss of a partner but also having a deep love for them at the same time. I think the “calling off the dogs” is a giving up of a search in his life. Maybe this applies directly to the relationship. I think “This is the song” is a direct idea of how he’s going say what needs to be said and listen to what she needs to say before they end the relationship. | |
