Lyrics and tune written by Peter Gabriel. The credits show Phil Collins but the album, The Lamb, is all a story told by Peter Gabriel. The rest of the band was not happy at the time he insisted on one story teller for the album. The rest of the previous albums lyrics were written by mainly Gabriel, Rutherford, and Banks. |

@[Bassmaker:32032] Wow I had no idea. That's also sad. All I heard about was the 5 of them getting back together a few years back, (maybe 20 years), ended with Peter and Steve walking out. The 3 left saying he left because he couldn't call the shots. When In Rome shows Phil taunting Mike and Tony saying, " wanna call Pete?" So nice to know they burried the hatchet. 1982 "Six of the Best" was the only reunion and it was a great bootleg but ony 2 days to practice so it wasn't professionally recorded, Nut thank you again for the information. I sincerely appreciate it. |

Who does these lyrics? They are always full of errors. It's "Thinking of politics gasoline and torture." Glen Phillips is a master at bending his words. Hard to know if it's torches or torture. |

Im sorry. Is it just me? This is some of Peter Gabriel's best writing and singing. He sold the rights to the band he co founded for a grudge they held for leaving to tend to his 1st born baby girl who was a troubled birth. So disappointed in Phil Collins, Mike Rutherford, and Tony Banks for not trying to get him back for the reunion in 2006. The fans were cheated and I lost respect for the other members of the band. This is the prettiest song they ever performed. Even though the lyrics make me laugh. Great humor in a sad BTW lyrics gets it wrong, the carpet crawlers he dare call us. Its about bug like creatures trapped on a piece of cellophane tape. Their perspective from under a staircase where they are trying to make it up to the chamber. |

I think its more about how the words sound with the music. The tune the melodic line he sings and how with the music.. How it makes you feel and as an old bass player I think we read too deep. Its just "Stories he tells" I love this band, their sound, guitar bass lyrics... Total package. Great bass lines by Dean, Tod is unique, Glen is a song machine. Gus is an inspiration with a bone disease that makes his bones soft. I play good but I wish I could have been in a band like this. |
