I am...I don't know, I think I'm depressed. Anyway, I see it as depression. "I ponder of something great My lungs will fill and then deflate They fill with fire, exhale desire I know it's dire my time today" I think too much, yet I'm breathing, I'm breathing I'm breathing, I'm breathing. I only have a short amount of time. "I have these thoughts, so often I ought To replace that slot with what I once bought 'Cause somebody stole my car radio And now I just sit in silence" I have so many thoughts, I need something to drown them out, I need music, but I don't have music, so instead, I sit in silence. "Sometimes quiet is violent I find it hard to hide it" The quiet brings out the thoughts, the thoughts that scream, I project happy, but it's hard to hide "My pride is no longer inside It's on my sleeve My skin will scream reminding me of Who I killed inside my dream" Oh look, on my arm, my skin is screaming it's bleeding. I fantasize about my own death, about killing myself. "I hate this car that I'm driving There's no hiding for me I'm forced to deal with what I feel There is no distraction to mask what is real I could pull the steering wheel" I hate my body. I want to hide, but I must deal with it. I can't hide forever, but I could kill myself, I could crash. "And it's that we're all battling fear Oh dear, I don't know if we know why we're here Oh my, too deep, please stop thinking I liked it better when my car had sound" we are all battling our fears. Please stop the thoughts, I just want to drown them out "There are things we can do But from the things that work there are only two And from the two that we choose to do Peace will win and fear will lose It is faith and there's sleep We need to pick one please because Faith is to be awake And to be awake is for us to think And for us to think is to be alive And I will try with every rhyme To come across like I am dying To let you know you need to try to think" Choose, do you want to think, or do you want the eternal slumber. He's telling you to choose to think, don't die yet. |

| @[ChelseaAnne99:27973] I like this interpretation, but I think it has less to do with having to kill someone and more with wanting to kill someone...yourself. | |

| @[AshleeJ:27972] I agree, I think the majority of their songs are about depression. When I hear these lyrics I don't think of a box in a car, I think of how hard I try to drown out my thoughts. I think of how easy it would be to sleep, but I have to choose to think. | |

So I'm gay, and I see this as a closeted queer girl maybe in love with an openly gay lesbian, maybe not. "Heart beats fast, colours and promises, how to be brave, how can I love when I'm afraid to fall" Her heart beats fast when she looks at the girls with their bright colours, everyone promises her that the people she loves, if they really love her will accept her. She's still learning to be brave, she doesn't want to fall in love, because she's scared to love a girl. "But watching you stand alone, all of my doubt suddenly goes away somehow, one step closer" She sees this open girl all by herself and either wants to be her, or falls in love with her. Either way she's one step closer to out of the closet. "I have died everyday waiting for you, time has brought your heart to me, I have loved you for a thousand years, I'll love you for a thousand more." She has died every day waiting to find someone to help her come out. Time has finally brought her someone to love her. She's always loved girls and always will. |

I take it many ways, sometimes an insecure person finding someone they trust, but I also have this theory it's about someone who is gay. They come out to their best friend, who they are in love with. " I'd give up forever to touch you" They want to be with the person, FOR REAL. "And I don't want to go home right now" They don't want to go back to they way things "should be". The chorus is about the fear of being gay in a homophobic world, and the desire to tell the people you love. |

I see all these interpretations and they are SO different from mine, but I'ma say it anyway. I see it as this 18 year old guy who's just starting to go out into the world. Maybe he's a virgin, but he goes out and gets drunk. He kisses a girl for the hell of it, but then they end up having sex, and he is shocked. He disassociates saying "he" when it's really him. The chorus is about all these crappy things he's discovering in our world "Open up my eager eyes" Is about how he went out eagerly, but now his eyes are opened. He was "Mr. Brightside" |

I guess this is kind of my interpretation, I read a lot of the other interpretations, and I get a lot of them, and they are all really good and eye opening. Mine is just a girl, she isn't a prostitute, but she is supposed to be a strong woman, a powerful one, maybe a lawyer or a therapist. She's falling in love with one of her clients. "She paints her fingers with a close precision" She has a careful front of being this strong powerful woman, she has to look perfect. "he starts to notice empty bottles of gin, and takes a moment to assess the sin she's paid for" One of her clients notices how tired and miserable she is, and he takes the time to ask her if she's OK, warming her heart. "A lonely speaker in a conversation, her words are swimming through his ears again" This makes reference to her position of being strong, but also of feeling like she has to be strong, She's then only one hearing herself until he comes along. He starts to really listen to what she says, and thinks about them. "Say what you mean, tell me I'm right, and let the sun rain down on me, give me a sign i want to believe" This is both of them, he wants her to tell him how she really feels, and she wants to know how he feels about her, she wants to believe he could love her and she could be vulnerable again. "Mona Lisa, You're guaranteed to run this town" She is a strong woman and people look up to her, expect things from her "Mona lisa, I'd pay to see you frown" He wants her to be honest with him, to expose her true feelings. And so on, I could expand, but anyone who reads this is prrobably bored by now, if someone comments I could extend it the rest of the way, but more likely than not, this'll be overlooked. |
