This song is brilliant. Echo some of the previous thoughts about the she being mother nature and the opening verse being about the world being cold and indifferent to you. What I also love about this song is the second revelation about the indifference of the universe. While there may not be a guiding hand guiding our way with a divine path for us to follow, this same force that doesn't care if we are happy or succeed- also doesn't care when are happy, and is not trying to prevent you from achieving that either. It is up to you! "Well I sat on the patio While the pianos sing a tune Forget about it all for a little while She don't mind, she don't care She don't mind, she don't care She don't mind, she don't care" A kind of ethos contained in this verse- forget it about all and enjoy yourself! These choices, and decisions that stress you out- it seems minor to me... |

This song is sung from the perspective of a man who is fed up with his relationship. He believes that his partner has put herself on a pedestal and instead of accepting him for who he is, is now preaching that he must become something else more like her expectations. The singer is stating that he can never be that person, as he is full of holes and she knows that. He says he would rather be alone than around someone who can't/won't accept him- "I don't mind being lonely, so leave me alone. stop acting so holy, when you know I'm full of holes". At the end, in final fuck off to his partner, the singer relishes the flawed person he is, states he can never be what she wants, and embraces his holes. "I won't ever be holy, thank god I'm full of holes" |
