@[OpenMindAudio:27425] Wow, thank you for taking the time to write this out. I've been stuck on this song for years. I was almost there but you organized it beautifully. You clarified the last verse where I often thought it was a tag on verse from another song. I read interviews where he discussed Dostoyevski. Elliott wanted to write lyrics that worked on multiple levels of interpretation. I never felt confident in this "filler verse" theory, and thankfully, I know why. Your analysis is clear and nuanced. You have a great understanding of his biography and his psychology, wow. You are dead on with this one. Great work! Really opens the genius within Elliott's lyrics. Please do more. An album by album analysis would be amazing. This is something I would pay money to read. It would also shine the light on Elliott's work. He really was one of the finest lyricist recorded to date.
