Electric Light Orchestra – It's Over Lyrics 1 year ago
The song's been running through my head lately. Which sucks, because I couldn't make out all the words. So I looked them up.

I wondered what "kick out the sea" meant. But it goes with "searching for the righteous wave" maybe, if it's another surfing reference. All these things. Surfing. Sun. Summer. All of them over.

These must be things they shared, now pointless.

I'm pretty glad I put all those ELO tracks on my player for my evening walks. Love their music.

Sorry, got my wires crossed, and now it looks like there is not delete option. So my stupidity is here for all time.

@[ChiTownHustler:48751] Rikki was from their first album, so it can't have been a precursor.

@[mrsadowsky:27361] AA is used by addicts of all types, and alcoholism is definitely an addiction. Many alcoholics like to think it's not the same thing, but it's exactly the same. I myself have always associated the expression "monkey on your back" with coke addiction. Not sure why.

After looking into it, the expression seems to have origins going back to the early 19th century, so I'm guessing it comes from mixing folklore describing monkeys as evil with the albatross from 1834's "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner". That's actually a good half century before the invention of heroin. Opium was pretty big then, but most opium addicts were also alcoholics. There was no AA, and no effective treatment.
