I went to their first concert in NY last year and they talked a bit about this song, according to Sean it's about being in love with someone when you really shouldn't be. I recently went through an experience that was exactly like that and the song made more sense. The first verse "I only ever want to be a part of you......... Yeah whenever it's fine," talks about wanting to be a part of who they are and wanting to be with them, however all you do is sit and watch things change in their life and your relationship with them basically just waiting for an opening. The chorus, "I thought you said....... Just with me and you," to me just shows how conflicting the persons feelings are for the person of their affections. They realize how their feelings can end the connection they have with the person but they ultimately don't care because they desire them too much to pretend like they don't love them. The final verse, "Give me the chance to tell you........ Your consolation is fine," basically talks about how although it's not ok the person keeps overstepping boundaries and probably flirting with the person they love and although they can't have them it feels like when they're alone they actually do have them, "when I'm alone for you for fractions at a time, it's only then she's truly mine". In the end all they can do is keep the person on their mind and be satisfied with that. I liked a girl in the past and ended up in a love triangle with her and another guy. In the end she chose him and it really hurt. Although I wanted to just get her out of my life we had to work together until I got a new job and by then we had kind of gotten into a friendship which caused me a lot of pain because I still had feelings for her which continued to grow. In the end I was in love with someone I really shouldn't have been in love with because she had a boyfriend. |

I think this song is about someone who's recently or not too long ago broken up with their partner. As shown by lyrics in the song such as, "now I'm waiting on someone," and, "my shadow's dancing, without you for the first time" the individual singing the song has already started to move on but still shows remorse for things ending, and isn't over their ex, which is shown by Niall singing, "cause if I'm being honest I ain't over you yet". The singer also shows a desire to reconnect with their ex and see them again shown by the part where they say, "my heart is hoping, you'll walk right in tonight," and hopes that they feel the same way. This song really hits close to home because, I got my ex this CD for Christmas when our relationship hit rock bottom and a few months later we broke up, however I remember her playing it during car rides and this was the one song that stuck with me during the entire holiday season and some of the new year. After breaking up and listening to this song this really feels relatable as I find myself moving and feel regret over how things ended, I'd still like to reconnect and be friends but can't. |
