I have always been intrigued by this song which I probably came across as a teenager in the 1950s. Bright and breezy, good rhythm and interesting lyrics. As far as I can find out it was issued about 1953. Recently I was surprised to find a reference to the same theme in a book, "Labrador Doctor" published pre-war. The Dr en route to a posting in Labrador is greatly taken by a young girl travelling on the boat. On the second day out he professes the desire to marry her to which she replies "you don't even know my name." He replies that the important thing is that her name should be the same as his. Which by the end of the voyage comes to fruition. Another sweet twist to his scenario which actually occurred. So the lyrics of the song could have been taken from real-life. |
