Chevelle – Well Enough Alone Lyrics 7 years ago
@[Therockpist1:27011] says: The reference to the Old and the Aged is speaking directly about Dad (The Old) and the Aged (Mom) who pulled and tugged a Joe because he's the youngest son. They made Joe a pawn in their scheme to keep the boys in the family religion and maybe the business of Cars and construction like their dad. Not so much the mother, but definitely the dad. They pulled and tugged, never knew what would be the end result of their actions.

Chevelle – Well Enough Alone Lyrics 7 years ago
Walk down the realm
Hint to no one that this
Generic bond exists
Evil shows another side

Joe ignores and acts as if he isn't a part of the family. He was a no-show even at his nieces wedding while the entire family was there. He's mean spirited, jealous and acts as if he's the black sheep. His anger towards his brothers leaves him casted out. He's either sick, or mentally unstable. A Loner that has deep rooted fears/issues with one of more family members.

And like before, makes no sense
Never coming, always leaving
Right before
Hooked on substance,
Digging deeper
Can't reveal

This is referring to him coming and going in the band. Pete's not sure what is going on with his brother, but he suspects drug use and will keep digging because he needs to find out what is bothering Joe.

Why we leave
Well enough alone
Never thought about the shame

Why they leave it be is because he is the one that has to deal with the shame of it if its drug use.

So fed up,
What's with the scenes?
Observe and leave instead
This pity wagon
Penetrates my skin
So sensitive, it makes me sick

Here he's stating that Joe makes a scene at family gatherings maybe and is very disrespectful. He feels that everyone owes him something because he isn't successful like his brothers so, he manipulates and makes the family feel pity for him to get what he wants. He seems very sensitive and you can tell it by the way he rolls his eyes in the videos, shuns the camera, don't like to travel, sign autographs or interact with fans. He's easily angered. He's saying if you don't like what's going on, leave don't act like a child, just leave.
You can look at Joe and tell he has anger issues. He is egomaniacal, and can be very disrespectful at times. He boasters about being so great, but what makes him great? This is why he sticks with the father, knowing that dad has pissed off the other brothers in some way. He essentially has sided with his dad in religion for this reason. Ten to one he's controlling and keeps his wife and children away from the family. Joe is childish, jealous and unhappy in his life and I am sure his wife is mentally, and verbally abused as well as manipulated.
