Hussey wrote this song after receiving a letter from a fan where she disclosed details of abuse at the hands of her father. Touched by the sincerity and openness of her letter, he penned "Amelia" (not the name of the actual girl)
Some years later (apx 2004-5), the same woman contacted him again to let him know how much she appreciated the song and that she was doing well in life. |

Kosheen's single "All in My Head" coincidentally follows the same guitar chord progression and general rhythm. While there was much innocence claimed, a track by a fan who mixed both Tower of Strength and All in My Head was banned from Kosheen's official forum. |

While the song was reportedly about a specific person, the meaning took on a life of its' own when it was embraced by The Mission fanbase as an anthem (of sorts) and, during a period when the band was considering calling it a day, became a person "prayer" for the fans by the frontman, Wayne Hussey. |
