Chris Cornell – Time Lyrics 4 months ago
Sorry, but these lyrics are missing the outro of the song: "Smoking on a cigarette, my six pack right beside me", which added to "tell me how it feels dreaming without a future" and "we all are drowning, island of man, we are surrounded" make this one of the most blatantly queer coded songs in his catalogue. Like, this is not even subtext, it is obvious.

Chris Cornell – Seasons Lyrics 5 months ago
In my opinion, this is hands down the best song he ever wrote. It is about not being able to express his true feelings, of hiding his true self to the World that surrounded him, and the loneliness that comes with it. He tries to find the courage to say to another person how he feels about them, and failing every time because he is terrified of how they will react. As a consequence, he is still paralyzed, watching the days passing by and dreaming of what he cannot have. The last verse is his mind secretly begging to the other person to do something, to make any kind of move that gives him a hint that he has a chance. But in the real world, he still hides how he feels, still paralyzed and still wondering if he has lost his opportunity forever, as time goes by.

By the way, Chris used to tell the story of how he recorded this song alone with a 4-track inside of a closet, and that detail is more important than what it seems.

Chris Cornell – Disappearing One Lyrics 5 months ago
I totally agree this song is about a relationship where he is not able to commit. He comes and goes but he cannot deal properly with his struggles and keeps feeding empty promises to the other person that he never keeps, so that relationship is never stable. But aside from this, there is a very important detail:

"I'm your dissapearing one
Vanish when the curtain's drawn".

This is a secret, hidden relationship. They are only together when no one can see them and no one can know. And then he compares the other person with a painting of Christ, which is a strange comparison if he's referring to a woman.

If you want to know the point of view of the other part, check "Off he goes" by Pearl Jam ;).

Chris Cornell – Can't Change Me Lyrics 5 months ago
This song makes a lot of sense if you analyze it from the perspective of a man who is realizing that he is gay and he is struggling with his sexuality. He knows he is with an amazing woman, and he really wants to love her the way she deserves, but he can't, no matter how much he tries, because he can't change the way he feels. But he still tries, and fails every time.

Chris Cornell – Other Side of Town Lyrics 5 months ago
This song is clearly a journey into the mind of a closeted gay man who is in denial, concealing and erase that part of him and trying unsuccessfully to have a relationship with a woman instead of assuming what he actually is and wants.

"Are you woman enough to be my man" = bisexuality nailed in one line.

Pearl Jam – Bugs Lyrics 5 months ago
This song is a metaphor about having gay feelings (or any kind of "inappropriate feelings" for that matter) and deciding what to do with them. That's what the "bugs" are. And that's why the song sounds so dissonant and intrusive, because that's exactly how that feels when you have them. It's genius. I love it.

This song is genius. About vinyl, but only on the surface. It is a metaphor for something else, and no, it's not drugs...

Texas – Say What You Want Lyrics 6 years ago
The pre-chorus of the song clearly references Marvin Gaye's "Sexual Healing" and Martika's "Love thy will be done". If you read the lyrics of those songs and then come back to this one it is much easier to understand what she sings about: she is basically replying to Marvin Gaye's lyrics, giving the woman's point of view.

They used to be lovers, but she left him because he was selfish and she didn't felt satisfied in bed, since he was only about his own pleasure ("never lived too long to make right, I see you're doing fine"). Now the guy wants to have sex with her again, and he insists (as implied by Marvin Gaye's song), but she keeps rejecting him because she doesn't want to be used only for sex, but feel reciprocated and satisfied too (as implied by Martika's song).
In the part where she sings "Ah just dream of me" its a very subtle way to hint that she's telling him to stay at home and relieve himself the next time he has those urges, because she's not going to have it anymore.
Her interpretation is also key: The heavy breaths at the beginning suggest sex, "When I get that feeling" sounds uplifting and euphoric in Marvin Gaye's voice, but in contrast she sings the same line in a monotonous way, as if she were bored. Also, the guitar seems to play the man's role, since sometimes it seems to interact with her, as if they were having a conversation.

Texas' lyrics, in many cases, are very opaque, but I think that is on purpose, because the other elements (the melody, the references, the voice interpretation, the instruments and details) is what actually give a clue on what the lyrics of their songs speak about.

Texas – Black Eyed Boy Lyrics 6 years ago
This song has two different parts: the verse (which is clearly based on Motown, specially Smokey Robinson's "Tears of a clown") and the chorus (based on Beatles' "while my guitar gently weeps"). Even her voice sounds different in each part, so it could be interpreted like a conversation...
I think this song could be about the segregation and whitewashing of rock and roll, which had been created by african american musicians, and how the music industry tried to force labels on "black music", segregating it and considering it less serious in favour of white musicians who had actually copied and been inspired by them.
The Beatles always acknowledged that they had been inspired by african american musicians, and actually George Harrison admitted being highly influenced by (and dedicated a couple of songs to) Smokey Robinson, so I even dare to think that the choice of the two songs referenced here is not a coincidence.

Texas – Breathless Lyrics 6 years ago
The lyrics are of this song actually pretty dark. I am actually this song is about domestic violence, and it tells the thoughts of a woman who's beaten and abused by her partner, but is too scared to leave him. The man screaming "hold me tight" represents him, who is forcing her to "love him" against her will.
