Drive-By Truckers – Do It Yourself Lyrics 6 years ago
I feel like Cooley's despite being a little more graphic "the pin hits the shell", is a little less angry.

Drive-By Truckers – When the Pin Hits the Shell Lyrics 6 years ago
There's two songs on this album about the same suicide. Patterson's is "Do it Yourself".

John Prine – Angel From Montgomery Lyrics 6 years ago
@[bhoover247:32835] This is the thing that always gets me about it. I'm more familiar with the Bonnier Rait version, I finally looked up his version to see if he actually wrote it that way and she didn't change it. I take a great songwriter to put themselves in that place, not to mention a little bit of guts to release a song written that way in 1971.

Tom Petty – Wake Up Time Lyrics 6 years ago
@[Kyle:29483] Vandagriff I had a long period of depression. I think clinical depression should have a different name from "Oh, I'm depressed that the Rams lost", because they're different things. As I came out of it was around the time Petty died, and of all the stuff of his I listened to, this really hit home with me. There's plenty of songs about being depressed, but this was the one I needed about "now get on with it".

Tom Petty – Crawling Back To You Lyrics 7 years ago
@[jermsz:28148] This is an interesting interpretation. It's fun how anxiety and depression go together isn't it? So when you're done being worried about nothing you can be sad because nothing is wrong.

I've come to feel like I never kick it, but it goes into remission. I think it's something that will always be with me.

Roger McGuinn – King Of The Hill Lyrics 7 years ago
@[willypowwo:28147] He was a creepy character.

I saw a piece of file where McGuinn was making an album (I assume this one) and Tom was berating the producer accusing him of getting kickbacks. Tom said, "Well let's get him a decent song then". I guess this was his solution. I still revisit it, but it's one I don't think you'd hear even on satellite radio (maybe on the Tom Petty station).

Cold Chisel – Khe Sanh Lyrics 7 years ago
@[Arianrhod:26650] "Sydney is a city in Australia (unless you were hiding under a rock for two weeks in September 2000, you'd know this)."

Let's say, hypothetically, I was under a rock, or that I'm just the typical American who doesn't keep up with world events (not all the time anyway), and I do know that Sydney is a city in Australia, but I don't understand the implication that for two weeks in September 2000 it wasn't.... could anybody help me out?
