| I believe that the correct translation of "mura n-athraí mé béasaí ..." is "and if I don't change my ways, i'm the heir to Co. Mayo. I have seen the translation "not to repeat myself" in several places but I believe that it is incorrect. The mistake probably originated from mistaking "athraig" (to change) for "athrá" (to repeat). I think the sense is "I already own Cork, both sides of the glen, and Tyrone and if I keep on going I'll inherit Mayo". Presumably of course he doesn't have a penny and is saying all this in irony | |
