Personally to me this is an lgbtq+ love anthem. "Like a deer in the lights of an oncoming bus" would be someone seeing you and your partner in public, then feeling like you have to stop or freeze because you feel shame. "Hearts on fire tonight. Feel my bones ignite" could be a passion or something similar for fighting homophobia. You heart could 'be on fire' with angry passion to try and end homophobia. "Fail safe trigger lock down call. Wipe the drive clean slate. Quick sound the alarm. No escape from the truth. And the weight of it all. I am caught in the web of a lie." Could be about trying to hide your relationship. Wanting to hide evidence you are more than friends. "And the bitch of it all is that I'm running from the desire of the people to whom I belong" could be about have a family what is homophobic. It's not listed but towards the end there is a line that's "(one more time)". This is most likely how the chorus repeats itself one more time. But with this story it could Ben about trying to make the relationship work again. Whether it's trying to introduce yourself and partner to your parents or whatever. "Love feels like war" being repeated could also be representative of a lgbtq+ relationship. This is because of facing homophobia and violence etc can make loving who you love feel like a war. |
