@[bkane531:28035] This is so amazing and I feel blessed that you came to write about this. It is crazy because I was JUST researching the song and wondering who your dad was. I could not find much information from a google search. Cake is one of my top top favorite bands, and I listen to a LOT of music. They are so incredibly artistic and their style is beyond anything else. I often think about what it would be like to meet John, I would want to help him with his anxiety on stage. Seems like as he got older a little less confident as well. He needs to know he's a boss and can do whatever he wants. There will always be idiots out there but real artists can see how brilliant this band is. Such nice jams! Thank you for this comment, and sorry it took me 7 years to find it! |

@[Caercutta:28034] could be a mental prison. this might be a writer sitting in a coffee shop watching people, maybe being a bit depressed, but set on his mission to write his book or novel or whatehaveyou contemplates suicide for a minute but knows the feeling will pass. he's got to say it all :) |

@[Chesterette:28033] Oh interesting. I took it almost the same, but I think the difference is in the weighting.. I believe it is more about writing and less about suicide. I saw that cool blade line as meaning more along the lines of, I need to write this but I'm a bit miserable and think about suicide, okay the feeling will pass, you need to get out there and write. But then I am a writer so maybe that is why I took it that way! hah! |

I like the top comment interpretation of that particular fighter who is innocent sitting in jail. I could also see it as simply a writer sitting in a coffee shop, being a bit down on the world, feeling stuck. Possibly thumbing the cold blade is contemplating suicide, but he knows the darkness will not last. He has to live on to 'say it all' Absolute love the song, adore the album, and pretty much every other album by Cake. They are a ridiculously talented and artistic group. I wish I could meet John McCrea and help him with his anxiety on stage lol. I think he's self conscious about getting old, and not willing to accept that he's a boss in 90's music culture. |

| The Smiths – Stretch Out and Wait Lyrics | 7 years ago |
| No the song is about sexual energy in general, not just intercourse or abstinence. It's about abstaining from masturbation also. Stretch out and wait.. keep the energy inside. Use it to write awesome songs :) | |
