The Smashing Pumpkins – Snail Lyrics 7 years ago
For me, this song is, hands down, my favorite Gish song. It has been for as long as I've had Gish. It really reminds me of the sunny side of spring, and the first part of summer break.

Alternatively, I kinda imagine Billy speaking to his son (Augustus Juppiter) in the beginning. Then, as the intro ends, we flash to Augustus (whom looks similar to Pre-Gish Billy) lazily laying on a bed. Billy's not home, but he still has that vision in his head of his father saying, "seize the hour". He doesn't know what it means, and thus the next verse makes sense. Even though he's still young (teen or young adult), he's still throwing his life away, possibly upsetting his father. He probably thinks his father will be upset with him, knowing that he woke up late. The rest of the song is pretty self explanatory. A son is lazy, and doesn't heed his father's warning of laziness. He becomes regretful because he realizes that his father is correct, but it's too late. By the way,it doesn't have to exactly have to be Billy and Augustus, those two just come to mind.

The Smashing Pumpkins – Galapogos Lyrics 7 years ago
I remember when I was in sixth grade, I had just gotten into Mellon Collie, I had realized there were too many songs [to relate to]. I felt like I would relate to other songs later in life, or whenever that could've been. Over the course of middle school, those songs had taken on new meanings to me. Some songs had become more relatable than others. Galapogos was one of those songs.

It really became relatable after my best friend and I had gotten into a giant fight in 8th grade. We were super tight, and we were basically inseparable. We would talk for hours on end, and staying up just to talk or joke. A few of these instances, I'd go on walks [against my mom's liking] to a field near my house and climb a tree while talking [on the phone] with her. So, this tree had became near and dear to me. However, I had told her a small lie, but that snowballed out of control. She soon found out that I had betrayed her trust, and she didn't talk to me for weeks. This happened in early March of 8th grade. Thus, the month of March had been the saddest of my life, as well as seemed to interrupt the flow of the already speedy 8th grade year. Thankfully, my buddy had invited me to a road trip which spanned all of spring break. This helped really get me out of my rut because here I realized that I had to forget her. Overall, we ended up apologizing, yet we aren't as close as we were.

This song also takes on another meeting for me. When I listen to it, I kinda imagine Billy against a starry background while his love is kinda obscured by the darkness. From what I can interpret, the song is about someone (presumably Corgan) whose been in a relationship with a girl for a long time. They've really been through thick and thin (kinda like my old best friend, we knew each other for like four years and became really good friends in 7th) and Billy wonders how she still loves him. He realizes that, no matter what mistakes he makes, she'll still truly love him. He can't deny this, but if she did leave, he would be able to accept the pain, or so he says. Furthermore, since most of his life has been filled with people leaving him for his behavior, he still wonders if she'll abandon him.

The Smashing Pumpkins – Virex Lyrics 7 years ago
I used to love this version compared to the album version, due to being grittier and having a less harsh sound. However, as time went on I began to love Imploding Voice better than this early, live version. Virex had became too much of a negative song to me, and Imploding Voice was much more uplifting. I guess as my outlook on life had changed, so did my choice of Imploding Voice vs. Virex. I guess I just wish I had a better mix of The Imploding Voice.

This is probably one of my favorite SP songs, and it's definitely in my top five of post-breakup songs. It's such a strangely melancholic song to me, especially since I heavily listened to this song in 7th grade, so this song reminds me of 7th grade. It also reminds me of "Home" in a way, because both songs really remind me of somewhat rural neighborhoods. They both encapsulate a journey through some fields or whatever.
