| Definitely one of my favorite songs on their new album. Took me a while to figure this one out, but i think its pretty clear to me now. To me, this song seems to be about the importance of creating meaningful connections and letting go of things we tend to want to carry around with us. The opening lines paint the picture of what its like to experience pain and sadness and how this can shape us and create our "borders". But it also gives us a clue as to how to deal with experiences like this, and turn them into something positive instead of just carrying them around as baggage. This, to me, is the whole point the song is trying to make...when we share these experiences with someone, we can form important connections with others, and at the same time be able to let go of some of the weight that can hold us back. "Armour, anchor, lead, and stone"...instead of using these problems as armour and becoming weighted down and closed off, we should remain open and let them go like "feathers". My favorite line of the song..."sadness, like a pendulum pulls us round and to and from".....really reinforces the central theme here, which is that pain and sadness will control us if we hang on to it. Really beautifully written, complex lyrics and a top notch vocal performance make this an instant MJK classic. | |
