| Imagine Dragons – Hopeless Opus Lyrics | 7 years ago |
| Let me start out by saying "opus" is Latin for work, meaning the song's title means "hopeless work". This means that the man feels like his work isn't going anywhere. Next, throughout the song you hear him mention 4 men, Mr cage-man, Mr safe-man, Mr Post-man, and Mr Fate-man. The singer feels like these people are controlling his life, first, Mr cage-man. The line "Hey Mr. cage-man, let me take a fresh breath" implies that the cage-man is making him feel trapped. The next one, "Hey Mr. safe-man, shuffle me an okay" means that the singer is settling for average, but he is bargaining to do so. Third, the post-man, the line "Hey Mr. post-man, slip me one more green note" is a bit hard to figure out, but then I found out green note is a website where you send donations to students struggling after college with either student debt or finding a job that fit's their skills. This means the singer is saying he's having money problems and/or can't seem to use his skills. Lastly, the fate-man. He's mentioned in the line, "Hey Mr. fate-man, shuffle me a ninth life." The first thing I noticed is that a cat is said to have 9 lives, but that isn't true. This could mean that he is asking for something he doesn't have but want's desperately; more time! But there's one last detail, the singer say's "I've filled this place with empty space, I'm trying not to face what i've done". Finally, this means that he felt like he's done this to himself. He's wrecked his own life, and out of desperation, he gave control to other people, but now he wants out. This song is one of imagine dragons darker songs, but with how deep it is, and how great the melody and rhythm is, it's also one of their best! | |
