This song is about people trying to keep their balance while being disoriented by the cold war, civil war, and uprisings. When the groups in the song say "walk like an egyptian" it's a metaphor for their attempts to tip the balance and disrupt things. The police being at the end if important because it's a metaphor for the police state and the dizzying violence used to keep the status quo. |

They feel like the deceased might hate them for things they've done in the past or present, and they just want a sign that the deceased person still loves them.
