I saw an interview w/Dave Matthews on tv and he told what inspired him to write this song. He was on a safari in africa and his friend showed him this tree. The tree only had one purpose, and that was to feed these ants. And all the different types of ants marched along the tree feeding off the sap. And if any other bug tried to get on the tree, the ants would kill it. Thats not really what the song is about, but its what inspired Dave to write it. I just thought that was kinda interesting... |

I just saw Vanessa Carlton open for Thrid Eye Blind and Goo Goo Dolls, and believe me she is not a carbon copy. This girl has TALENT! She said she wrote this song about a crush she had. She sat down at her piano and just made up the first few lines and her mom came running in and said "Vanessa, did you write that?? Thats gonna be a hit song girl!" I have a lot of admiration for someone who can just sit down at a piano and write something so beautiful. |

When I listen to the lyrics the first thing I think of is "its a jerk song." The guy just wants to play around with the girl but not have any real commitment or relationship. He just wants her to be there when its convenient for him. Just like so many guys I know.... |

I guess this song could have many different meanings-- but to me personally, its a break up song. Not a sad-sing the blues break up song, but more of a screw you song. I love it when he sings "I'm not as ugly, sad as you!" I blasted this song when my boyfriend and I broke up, it made me feel better. :) |

Not too many people seem to like this song-- but I do. It doesn't have any deep hidden meanings, but its just about the crap everyone has to go through in high school. My favorite line is "There's one to many of you in this world." haha thats great. Now I always say that to people who annoy me. |
