A Perfect Circle – The Contrarian Lyrics 7 years ago
@[kcpee:26808] I don't believe it has anything to do directly with Trump. However I do know how much he aposes him. I do think this song, and much of the album have to do with the world's general atmosphere today. It's not necessarily directly political.

@[imnotreal:25919] You hear trans undertones only because trans people her trans stuff in everything. It's just another form of running eitherway. I mean that if this is what you are striving at, viewing things as and fighting for, then it's just another form of this. But is it is not what the song actually means. It means something bigger than that.

I just have to say that if you think this has to do with genders, or sexuality, then I think you are reading into this way, way too far and your confused on what the bigger picture of the song actually is. It's not normal that a music video can be so helpful in telling what a song actually means however with this song the music video lines up perfectly with the songs meaning, so if you want to actually understand what it's saying you should probably follow that.

This song is about something that we all experience begining at some point in our life. Some later than others. Many experience it growing up from childhood to adulthood. It's a time in our life when we are faced with the truth of our world and we feel like the only thing we can do is run. We either do this physically by traveling and leaving our homes/parents, or we try to escape in other ways. We do this because we feel we need to "grow up", and our world is not as it should, or we do not know where we fit in it.

In the music video, in the very begining we see the boy leaving and running, like he is running away from home, or his own town/city. He is alone at this point, and he is running from no seeable enemies.

Run boy run! This world is not made for you
Run boy run! They’re trying to catch you
(the unknown enemy trying to stop him)
Run boy run! Running is a victory
(feeling like the more running he dose, the better he feels about everything around him.)
Run boy run! Beauty lays behind the hills
(If he can just get a little farther, he will somehow win against his world.)

Run boy run! The sun will be guiding you
Run boy run! They’re dying to stop you
(more of this unknown enemy trying to stop him)
Run boy run! This race is a prophecy
(He feels that he will finally be able to do something about the world. He is righteous and he will be able to fix everything if he just keeps running.)
Run boy run! Break out from society
(This is the very literal meaning. He is trying to break away from everything he has been told growing up. It is now time for him to find his own path.)

In many ways we fight against our world as you see the other monsters in the music video. You would be lead to believe initially he is running from them, but as soon as they get to him they pick him up and help him keep running. They give the boy the sword and shield. Obviously better to help him fight. In the real world our friends around us will often do this and even fight with us, or at least cheer us on. They pick us up when we fall and help us keep running.
However this is when we begin to realize the monsters we have been fighting in the world, the society we see are the same ones that are now helping us fight.

Tomorrow is another day
(This is the point in the music video when the boy falls. We all have things that go wrong in our life, and we sometimes feel like we don't want to continue.)
And you won’t have to hide away
(We sometimes only want to hid, not run.)
You’ll be a man, boy!
(This is when we realize we are becoming adults. This line is something that maybe you remember your father once telling you. But we are still going to keep fighting. At this time we still don't really know who we are fighting.)
But for now it’s time to run, it’s time to run!
(When we get down, our friends help us up and pick us back up again. Right after this line in the video one of the monsters picks the boy up.)

Run boy run! This ride is a journey to
(This is an interesting line because it ends abruptly... like as if we don't know where we are actually going...)
Run boy run! The secret inside of you
(The secret of who is being fought, the secret of who you are, and where you are going.)
Run boy run! This race is a prophecy
(The prophecy is also what he has been told all his life that this will at some time happen.)
Run boy run! And disappear in the trees

After this point we are seeing in the music video the boy running with a bunch of the monsters. We see him now running with all of them. Leaping over others that are ahead of him, waking them up to only run with him.
He is now running with everyone, everyone is really running and fighting the same thing.

Tomorrow is another day
(This is the line in the music video when the boy jumps off the cliff. He is now thriving in the fight. Going faster than ever and doing better than ever.)
And you won’t have to hide away
You’ll be a man, boy!
(At this point in time, the boy is achieving what he set out for, but he knows he can always improve. In a way we never actually grow up.)
But for now it’s time to run, it’s time to run!
(So he keeps running.)

Tomorrow is another day
(This is when in the video he hits the ground running)
And when the night fades away
(This is sort of hinting at the fact that at some point the boy is going to to stop running. In the real world people always eventually die. The next line rides into this, and is saying that finally when he dies he will be a man.)
You’ll be a man, boy!
(This is when he is older now, and in the video he is now cheering on the other monsters to come with him. Now because he has gone far.)
But for now it’s time to run, it’s time to run!
(But he never stops, and wants to keep running no matter what.)

The next part of the music video shows more and more monster running. Whole ships appear with more monsters ridding on them. Much bigger monsters appear too, these are the biggest monsters. But the boy is still running ahead of them. He is still growing up and running and fighting incredibly strong.
Eventually the boy gets to the city, or where ever, or what ever you interpret it as.

We in the end just keep running untill we find something that eventually stops us. This is normally death. Regardless the circumstances and regardless the odds, the truth is you can’t run forever. Sometimes you can fight, and sometimes you may even win, the fact of the matter remains.

No one wants to run forever.
