For me this song is about past lives. Like someone wondering if the past life lover would feel the same connection between then. When he says :'' So she took her love for to gaze awhile upon the fields of barley In his arms she fell as her hair came down among the fields of gold '' is a memorie of what happened. Like the person is seeing now what happened in the past. In The verse : Many years have passed since those summer days among the fields of barley See the children run as the sun goes down among the fields of gold I think it could be even their children. The children that they had in a past life and now they also are living another lives. '' I never made promises lightly and there have been some that I've broken But I swear in the days still left we'll walk in fields of gold We'll walk in fields of gold '' - > To me, this is a reflection about the past mistakes and also a hope that they can be together again, here or in a future life. I'm not saying that is what Sting is trying to say with the song, it's just what it means to me. It's a very personal thing, cause I like to wonder if i loved someone in a past life and if I was happy |
