The Menzingers – Tasker-Morris Station Lyrics
| 6 years ago
|
Tasker-Morris station is a subway stop in south Philly. Probably met some chick there and started going out but then it ended up being a bland and boring relationship, but the memory of meeting at this stop is romanticized.
My dad was born on Tasker st in the 50s in the irish Greys Ferry neighborhood. Its funny to think about these guys singing about it and making it their own, while my dad did everything he could to get out of that fucked up area. Its getting gentrified now, thus bands like this singing about it. But its sad that many hipsters dont know the history of these neighborhoods. The Menzingers still rule tho! |

The Menzingers – Come Here Often? Lyrics

Definitely about moving to south Philly from white working class Scranton PA, and all the black dudes on your block being bitter and seeing you as another hipster yuppie, gentrifying the area. Its obvious. |

The Menzingers – Rivalries Lyrics

Having trust issues with a friend. Thinking they were great then getting backstabbed. Getting motivated to move on and make yourself better. But at the same time you cant be so sure of your own self.
I think its about beef between/amongst Greg Barnett and dudes from the other Philly/Scranton bands Captain Were Sinking and Tigers Jaw. Cause those other bands have lyrics akin to " i cant wait for, live for ever",...they all just rip off this same motive to be dicks to eachother, but one of these bands made these lyrics initially. I think it may have all started over a girl asking one dude in a band for another dudes number in the other band. They're all probably over it and friends by now... |

The church is a racket? Just like everything else? Disguises itself as something apart from say a drug dealer offering you shit or doctor prescribing happy pills? |

A friend becoming hooked on drugs and leading that life. Unrecognizable. Nothing surprising. Just like his dad. "So it goes". |

Being young and optimistic, then growing up and realizing its tougher than you thought to advance yourself farther then your father, thus feeling sorta null and void. Being as shitty or shittier than your old friends. Your dads advice was right? The world is a struggle? |

The Menzingers – Chamberlain Waits Lyrics

This songs about the Chamberlain arms factory, i think, which was outside their studio space in Scranton PA. They realized that the factory was just waiting there ominously, for guys to eventually become adults and then sorta seamlessly become workers there. Like the typical evolution of humans to become part of the interworkings of the modern world. |
