with regards to the line you weren't sure about:
"Now I'm overcome By the light of day My lips are near But my heart is far away"
I reckon if you look at the previous concept of -
"For they are the lanterns and you are the light",
it's God's light shining through the vessels of "His" people, but in daylight a lantern isn't as bright, so my interpretation is that in the glare of the material world, the protagonist is straying from his faith and righteousness. The following part about,
"My lips are near But my heart is far away"
confirms that while his lips may speak the word of God, his heart has strayed towards his own desires.

I've been listening to this song on repeat for days now, and it's a conceptually terrifying piece of songwriting.
