| Kings of Convenience – Love Is No Big Truth Lyrics | 7 years ago |
| @[musicnmeaning:24975] I liked what you said. When love disappoints us, and it does inevitably, we can move on looking for another person, stick it out, or question the significance and value of love (as the writer does). And it seems very valid to question love. We come to love with the hope of finding something grand ("symphony") yet secure ("cushion") to be the crescendo of life, to be our end goal in life, to make us happy. But love falls short because "we are simple, selfish beings". (I think, how often, when we say, "I love you," do we really mean, "I love how I get X from you"?) And from a cold, dissecting, scientific point of view, "love" is simply a conglomeration of molecules into hormones, tools of evolution to pass on one's DNA. The song leaves me with the question, "Can we really live with our beliefs about love?" A Disneyfied idealized vision of love can only be disappointing, while a clinical, biological vision of love is cynical, soul-sucking, and somehow hard to hold onto. My personal view is that love is an image meant to point us to a desire for something bigger that can actually fulfill our grandiose expectations and fantastic desires. (See Ephesians 5:32 for specifics.) | |
