For me, this song is about death, dying and getting there. The night I left my Sister's side for the first time in 28 days in the hospital...I got a call at 4:00am stating they needed to put her back on the respirator. Her eldest Son and I knew we would never see her again after what happened the first time they put her on - When they took her off, she didn't wake up for 5 days and they didn't know why. She did not "wake up the same", she was unconscious yet whaling about and screaming while unconscious (a very painful experience). So, I didn't know if I could make it to the hospital before she was put under... I got in the car and drove over 100 mph. This song played in the car as I sang and cried to it as it was a perfect description of what was happening. "Oh I'm on my way I know I am somewhere not so far from here, I keep on wondering if I sleep to long will I even wake up again or something" "Only for the light I see, "Cause when I'm dead and lowered low in my grave that's going to be the only thing that's left of me". I got there just in time to tell her I loved her and to kiss her goodbye(although she did not know this was what I was doing). We had to let her go about a 1 1/2 weeks later... I hope she "made it to the waterside" and found her boat. She didn't "wake up again or something". She was 44 with three children and my dearest treasure. |
