The Veils – Jesus for the Jugular Lyrics 7 years ago
An addendum to what I was saying, yes fighting light and dark, but Jesus for the jugular i think is shooting up. Heroin or cocain through a needle definitely turn into God. Jesus for the jugular if there ever were... and then the ensuing fight for your soul, and for the light while the darkness pulls. Let him go... let him go from me

The Veils – Jesus for the Jugular Lyrics 7 years ago
It is about a crisis of faith, and you inner demons fighting. It is about being pulled into the darkness and wanting the light. Is there a purpose? Would the Fox be as quick if he hadn’t his hound?

You can hear the struggle in the way he sings it especially let him go... is he begging for someone’s release as kindness or does he want his demons gone? Or still, let him go from me. ( set those you love free)

As far as the earth metaphor I believe it’s about confusion and youth and beauty... you rise in ecstasy of foolishness, or spirituality and faithfulness depending who you are and then you are pulled back to earth realizing you are meaningless I.e the stars applaud whenshe sits back down... the struggle metaphor is throughout the entire song. I believe people are interpreting this to literally.

Perhaps finding out the truth or shedding your skins of youth or becoming more sure about something causes a kind of empowering fury that allows you to rise above the chains.. the last verse is very much a play between light and dark: there’s a bulls blooded fountain in the pit of a moan
That I’ll summon an eclipse on my way to the lord...

“Jesus for the jugular one at a time
Ain’t nobody ever gonna ever have to die...”
To me this still represents a choice but is jaded and tired.. does remind one of both Karl Marx religion is the opium of the people, and also the afore mentioned verse of scripture where Jesus says to drink of my body you shall have eternal life.. but again that is to literal. It’s a person questioning the light and the dark and wondering where or what the purpose is. These are not the words of someone making a definitive comment on religion. This song is spellbound, visceral, raw, beautiful. Not trite. Trite would be a song about how stupid Christianity is.
