My name is Carrie, I am now 49 years old and my father used to sing this song to me in the 70's when I was a little girl. I did not know then, but I have know now for decades that he was an alcoholic. He loved me with all his heart and he needed me to carry him. I tried to do that,. I was the oldest and most responsible child of his 4 children. He left us when I was 12. Pretty much never to be heard from again. He passed away about 4 years ago (2014), I had only seen him twice in 20 y\fears. I literally have felt for decades that this song was written about me and my dad. He was in such a sad state, He needed me to lean on, but I was still a little girl. This song will stay with me until my last day, Just offering you a different perspective..
