Pretty straightforward meaning to this song. Hank has fallen for a girl who he really enjoyed time with. So he went to give her his heart and got turned down. The reason why is because she'd fallen for another person already and is with that guy. So Hank is stuck with this feeling of rejection, drinking to himself to try and forget and move on. But he's finding it difficult to do that because he cares a great deal about her. Then Hank goes on to note that he's grown a lot over the years. He's gotten smarter, stronger, and wiser. Yet despite the passage of time he still often thinks about the girl that he used to care about so greatly. She still occupies his mind, and while the pain is mostly gone the memories are things that he'll carry forever. |
