I’d say this song is about capitalism, the ring leader (corporation) is demanding that everyone just keeps playing along with the system; the minority is refusing but eventually he’s silenced by the masses. I think this because of the line ‘where’s my milk and honey’ which references the children’s rhyme in which the owl and the pussycat sailed off with milk and honey wrapped up in a ten pound note. The minority realises they’re being coerced and stolen from, he realises that all this clapping along (buying products) isn’t helping with his loneliness, he realises that he’s been left distribute, but can do nothing about it. (I created an account just to write this because no one had brought up the ‘milk and honey’ line yet). |
