Kid Rock has a much better understanding of the human condition than many people give him credit for. It’s fairly clear that he’s endured some pain during his life and probably fought a fairly tough battle in the self medication department. This song is a shout out to the human race and all the messed up people who are considered both failures and successes by society, everyone who struggles to get back up when they’ve been knocked down and the folk who do the knocking down as a defence mechanism. The line ‘get in the pit and try and love someone’ is the core of this song. Life is a bear pit, a gladiatorial ring. It’s brutal, it’s cruel and it’ll eat you alive if you don’t find some way to coexist. He’s saying there’s no point trying to figure out if you are the way you are because your parents were mean or you didn’t concentrate in high school or whatever. Just get out there and i find someone to love and make your own 10 square feet of life a better place. You can sit all day trying to figure out where it all went wrong or you can march through life like a drone ‘the hypnotic lyrics make you zone out but equally also cunjour up a mass rising’ but if you can just get up, get out there and find a way to love someone no matter whether you’re sliding down a stripper pole, in recovery or dishing out parking tickets, well, you’re doin’ ok! |
