When you google these lyrics, the Genius version has the last line as: "It will end again in moonlit song..." I like it so much better, I refuse to sing it any other way now. I think this song is a statement about the arrogance of man trying to dominate the earth. Too often they feel too superior, and they end up dead. Always approach wild animals with caution and fear. He strutted his best strut, charmed her for a moment, and ultimately could not keep up with her. His lament "December boy's got it bad" is a heartbroken nostalgia for his own youth, and the ability to hold this young girl he loves at his age. He torments himself, believing and then giving up. Ultimately, he cries for himself, for his own mortality, for bad timing, and for this young beautiful girl that will never be his. |

Meaning, he was a dreamer, looking for a dream night and a dream date, and because it was her, he fell in deeper than he intended. The dream became real, and it scares the pants off of him. |

That to me sounds almost condescending, like she has been a fool all of this time from the girl she used to be to the woman she is now. Always falling for him again and again, and he tried to catch her, but in the end he doesn't really love her, and never even really caught her name.
