Most intuitive interpretation: The song is about sex. Cherry refers to the hymen, while Waves is Chino's metaphor of the wave-like movements during sexual intercourse. That said, the title suggests having sex with a virgin, but let's see the lyrics. =>"(In) a sea of waves, we hug the same plank" To me it refers during the sexual intercourse, the aforementioned "waves" as we do it on a bed, which is usually made of wood (save the mattress, of course). =>"Just as I rehearsed it over in my brain" I don't know why somebody put "during an hour break" in the lyrics. Anyway, Chino seems satisfied because he's having the moment he just imagined before. =>"If the waves sucked you in and you drowned. If like you should sink down beneath, I'll swim down" If she likes the sex, the waves, as she loses her breath, he would go deeper and deeper into the moment. =>"You hang the anchors over my neck" In this line, Chino refers to the moment he performs cunnilingus on his girl and she presses his neck with her legs. =>"I liked it at first but the more you laughed, the crazier I came" I'm not so sure of this line yet. It may seem one of two possibilities: -She laughs because she's not feeling anything, and Chino becomes more intense because of the frustration. -Some girls laugh as a result of the sexual stimulation (A well known example of this is Stoya) and Chino becomes either more intense because of that. =>Chorus+"Is that what you want?" Self explanatory. =>"Escape below" I think he finds in sex a way to escape from reality for a little while. |
