To me and many others it is what is going through the mind of the singer when their parents or any other authority or important person in your life when they want you to be this perfect little person doing exactly as they tell you and you just feel so numb that you don't know how to comprehend the situation and you just fall apart. for the most part the song is straight forward in the lyrics but some can be confusing feeling so faithless, lost under the surface: this is basically saying that you don't know what to believe anymore and you're a shadow of them lost with no individuality caught in the undertow, just caught in the undertow: being dragged under the surface and dragged by the person in order to be perfect is what that means can't you see that you're smothering me: this means that the person speaking feels like they're being suffocated by being forced to be perfect even though they can't and every second I waste is more than I can take: every second you waste not trying to break free or save yourself is getting to your head and you feel like you can't ever get away from it |
