Hi Everyone, This may seem like a very dumb question I'm asking, but here we go... I do understand the following: * The metaphor/reference to the Indonesian waterside city of JAMBI, a PROVINCE in Indonesia, run by a "sultan prince" (Maynard in this case). * 2nd Verse is about how GREED (the devil) can easily change a person. * 3rd Verse is about how much Maynard has spent so much energy getting to where he is now, yet didn't necessarily have to - it fell into his lap. * Compromising the FULCRUM" is representative of him KEEPING the balance of scales even. Ego against humility, rich over poor, even music vs winemaking, etc, because if he finds himself on the WANTS scale rather than the NEEDY scale, "Then he might as well be gone". * The "DIVIDED" section is saying that unless those scales won't balance properly, it has negative outcomes either way. * The "Shine on, benevolent SUN" bit, is about his homestead in Arizona, hence "JAMBI", which is a metaphor for it. * "Silence, Legion, Stay Out Of My Way" bit is just a reminder to the public, the media, the hordes of people that want a piece of him (or his property), and journalists, etc, that the reason he moved to Arizona in the first place was to GET AWAY FROM THEM ALL. Which leaves me with this question : WHO is "YOU" throughout this? He does the same in "Eat The Elephant" with the line "Where to Begin eludes me, without YOU to remind me...".. Who or WHAT is it??? His wife? His Son? He alludes to that in the APC song "BRENA" which is about her, Jennifer Brena... Anyone have any more information on this all? Sorry for the rant. |

| A "StraitJacket" (Chevelle may have incorrectly misspelled it on purpose), is totally WHITE, and so the "opposite" is to be colorful, and not in a StraitJacket. Not repressed. Having the freedom to be what you are without restraint. I just thought I'd point that out. Fantastic song. One of their best. | |

Pete has said in many interviews how much of an influence Tool has been, and Maynard (as a singer), has been to him, musically. Plus, Pete is not the greatest singer LIVE. His pitch is all over the place, but his energy kind of overrides that. Maynard is very controlled, in tune. | |
