Alright, so here goes my interpretation: "My beautiful liar Why are you crying On your knees You've crucified yourself And now denial is rising" This to me suggests the person has done something they are unwilling to face. They are playing victim (crucified yourself) and denying their role in whatever has happened (denial is rising). "Why So tell me So tell me how did you lose yourself at sea Drifting within So tell me why did you cast yourself away It's such a sweet addiction You should celebrate" The person, lost in themselves, in their own sea of turmoil, have come across this entity which confronts them asking why they are here. My first impression of this entity was something sinister, as if the person is being confronted by a monster about to pray on the weak. "My beautiful liar You are drowning In your fear You're cutting into me You think if I bleed It can save you" Here its implied that the longer the person hides away from the truth, the more dangerous things become, the more they're lost at sea. This person is attacking the entity as if it is the issue (much like self destructive tendencies). The entity remains calm however, and continues to ask this person why they're here and how they got here. "Why So tell me So tell me how did you lose yourself at sea Drifting within this So tell me why did you cast yourself away It's such a sweet addiction You should celebrate" Again the entity asks why this person is here. It is trying to confront them and break the cycle of lying to oneself. This is where my perception of the entity as something sinister changes to a more caring, accepting, and guiding type of being inside this person. The entity is acknowledging the person is lost in this mess. The sweet addiction they are referring to is this person's habit of playing the victim and lying to themselves. But the celebration this entity is referring to is actually the finding of themselves and the acknowledgement/confrontation of the issue. "And you know if I could I'd take your pain But will you turn and face your disease" Lastly, here the shift is completed. This once perceived dangerous entity is actually the self. This person that has been found in the sea of despair. They are saying to themselves, in order for this pain to go away and for you to survive, you must give up the role of victim and, for yourself by yourself, face your disease for what it is; the addiction to playing victim. In accepting this truth, this person will begin healing and the sea will dwindle. |
